1) We offer Rainshield Cladding in the following profile
British Western Red Cedar Rainshield Cladding is knottier than the imported Cedar and more yellow in appearance.
2) We offer British Western Red Cedar Rainshield Cladding in the following grade:
IWC8 Rainshield 142mm (138 face) x 19mm
IWC8 Rainshield 142mm (138 face) x 19mm
The rainshield profile is a slanted rectangle shape (nearly a parallelogram, technically an obtuse trapezoid with chamfers!). It's designed to be installed horizontally with a slight gap between the boards, giving an extremely modern, uniformed look. People often cut to exact lengths too to give a purposefully regimented, grid-like pattern.

The British timbers that we supply are growing more and more in demand as people look to home-grown products. We are proud to supply top quality British Western Red Cedar Rainscreen Cladding which is sourced from sustainable and managed forests.
We supply Fresh Sawn Merchantable grade British Cedar which is a characterful timber containing knots. Even though it is "Fresh sawn", British Western Red Cedar is stable enough to be machined into a profile.
The Cedar is a light reddish-brown and the colour isn’t as prominent as it is in the Imported Canadian Cedar. Over time the wood will weather and turn silver-grey, however you can apply a UV protection oil to the wood which will keep the original colour for longer.
The lengths are usually supplied randomly 3m and longer, if you do need exact lengths then please call us on 01889 279 018 or talk to us on the online chat. On the shopping basket page we have a “Special Instructions” box where you can leave the exact lengths you need for your cladding as long as you have checked with us before hand.
Be sure to read through our treatment information by clicking on "Treatment Guidance" above. It talks about sealing, preserving and protecting the timber from the sun's UV rays. Here are quick links to the products we recommend:
Canadian and British Western Red Cedar
Please see below some pictures of planed all round Western Red Cedar slats. Although they aren't pictures of cladding you will be able to see the colour difference between the Canadian and British Western Red Cedar which will help you to make a choice between the two.
Our fitting guidelines are designed to give you a starting point on how to fit your rainshield cladding and we recommend that you consult an expert fitter to advise on your actual scenario.
Please note: One of the edges of our rainscreen profile has a steeper angle than the other. The profile is designed to be fitted with the steepest angle at the top, so the gap between the boards is widest at the front exposed side, and smallest at the back.
Be sure to read our treatment guidance as treatment needs to be applied prior to fixing your cladding.
Rainshield cladding should be fitted on top of a breathable membrane, because it is designed to be fixed with gaps around it. This membrane stops rain getting to the wall, but allows moisture to escape, helping to prevent internal condensation and mould that can come with it.
Treated Softwood Battens
Treated softwood battens (available from our cladding accessories pages) are most commonly used to fix to the wall (or on top of the breathable membrane) to then fix your cladding to. For rainshield cladding, which is fitted horizontally, your battens need to be placed vertically, at around every 600mm (60cm).
When fitting your timber to the battens we recommend pre-drilling the holes to avoid splitting the wood and then hold the board with screws. Rainshield cladding boards are designed to sit on top of each other and we recommend leaving a 12mm gap in between them on the front face.
Unlike other profiles of cladding, many people line up the joins on each row of cladding to create bold lines for a modern look.
As already stated, these are just ideas to get you thinking about installation and you should consult a professional installer before fitting your cladding as every scenario is different.
All our claddings are provided untreated. Fresh sawn timber claddings are best left untreated and to go silver grey.
There are a wide range of optional treatments available for different species of timber and we recommend talking to the excellent team at www.wood-finishes-direct.com, who know the most up-to-date information on all the newest treatment products.

Some commonly asked questions
Our timber is imported straight from sawmills on the continent. Our usual lead times are therefore 14 to 17 working days.
What are your delivery costs?
We calculate our delivery costs based on how far away you are from us, to get more information on this please check out our shipping costs page HERE.
Our delivery lorries visit different parts of the country on different days, so once your order is ready we will work with you to arrange a delivery day for when one of our lorries is in your area. We will always arrange the delivery day in advance with you.
We deliver weekdays Monday to Friday between the hours of 8am to 5pm. Our delivery vehicles will have multiple jobs on them which can affect the delivery time to you, depending on factors such as traffic and how long it takes to offload the previous jobs. The driver will call you in advance with an estimated time of arrival to make sure you'll be there.
Aside from delivery locations that are priced on application, your delivery will be provided with means of offloading from the truck. This may be by HIAB (lorry with a crane arm), or by supplied manpower. The method will be determined by the haulage company we use based on your location and available options at the time. Please note, both offload options will drop your order to the side of the lorry, they won't be able to carry it around the back of a property, for example.
For areas that are priced on application, by default, we will quote for delivery on a flat-bed lorry that you'll need to arrange to offload yourself. We can quote for offloading on request, but to these areas it's usually prohibitively expensive, and cheaper for you to hire a forklift, or arrange to have enough people on-site to offload.
How do I place an order for cladding?
You can place your order online by working out your price above and adding your items to your shopping basket. You can then check out and your order will be processed securely and a confirmation email sent. Once your order arrives in our depot, we'll give you a call to arrange delivery.
Can I Order Samples?
Yes you can, you can order samples of certain timbers at www.iwood.co.uk/sample-request/.
If the species you need isn't there please give us a call or talk to us on our online chat.
The timbers shown are planed all round samples and are not profiled.
