Product Description
Sapele is an African hardwood which can be used in marine environments and for internal joinery. The strength of Sapele wood is comparable to English Oak in terms of resistance to indentation, bending strength, stiffness and shock load resistance.
We supply Sapele in the FAS grade, which is the best grade available. The colour of the wood darkens to reddish-brown when dried in a kiln, although, the timber will still silver grey if left untreated and in direct sunlight.
Our cut to size timber is untreated and is kiln dried to remove moisture content. Sawn Sapele is ideal if you don't have the facility to cut timber down in-house.
Our cut to size Sapele wood & timber products (also called sawn to size) are literally sawn down to your chosen measurements and come straight off the saw with no machining performed to the edges, unlike our planed products. The timber is supplied in nominal thicknesses of 25, 32, 38, 50, 64, 76 and 100mm ready for you to machine for use.
iWood - The premier supplier of Sapele wood in the UK
Sapele is widely used for furniture, cabinet-making, shop-fitting, boat-building, panelling and joinery. The wood can be difficult to work with although a good finish can be obtained, the timber can be glued well and takes nails and screws well.
As supplies of Mahogany have become harder to come by, after it was listed on the CITES (the Convention on International Trade in Endangered, Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) Appendix II, Sapele has become a common substitute. Sapele has similar qualities to Mahogany and is part of the same family – Meliaceae.
At iWood Timber Merchants, we have built our reputation on supplying the highest quality timber, ensuring you have the greatest percentage of usable Sapele possible from your order.
