Product Description

Bangkirai, popularly known as Yellow Balau, is tropical timber regularly used for exterior decking. The timber is a yellowish – reddish brown colour and classifies from durable to very durable. The wood is used for freshwater construction so is suitable for decking on boats.

Tropical woods are sought after for their immense durability and lack of onsite maintenance. They are the definition of plug and play in the timber industry, as in, they can be fixed immediately with no treatment work required.

The interlocked grain makes machining Bangkirai Decking difficult, Bangkirai has a natural hardness which has a blunting effect on tools. So that’s why buying ready machined Yellow Balau decking can be beneficial.

The timber tends to be readily available so that makes it more favourable cost wise compared to other tropical timbers.

Select and Better Grade Bangkirai Decking

The Select and Better grade Bangkirai decking we supply is high quality with minimal knots. The boards are supplied in our IWD7 profile, which is 145mm wide with a 3mm radius on the corners. This profile is fully reversable, so you get the choice of which face you want to see.

The wood is supplied kiln dried so that it is in its most stable form. When it comes to treating Bangkirai, the heartwood is extremely difficult whilst the sapwood takes treatments moderately well.

Fixing Yellow Balau Decking

When fixing any wooden decking it is important to use stainless steel nails or screws. Using anything other than stainless steel will cause blue staining in the wood and the metal will corrode.

Yellow Balau Decking is designed to be fixed with a slight gap in between the boards, no larger than 6mm, any larger than that will cause chair legs and other large objects to fall through.
