Prime Quality European Lightly Steamed Beech - Planed All Round Timber
Planed-all-round (PAR) European Beech is ideal for furniture (tables, chairs, cabinets) including contract furniture for schools, hospitals, government builds etc, toys, tool handles, interior joinery and interior construction.
Our Beech is lightly steamed after it is cut from the log (so before it has chance to dry) in order to turn it reddish-brown colour which has become an essential characteristic of European Beech. Without steaming, the wood’s natural colour is a much paler cream.
A few of European Beech’s outstanding characteristics are Its:
- Bending capabilities
- Workability – Beech machines, glues, finishes and turns well
- Wear resistance
Our planed all round European Beech is supplied ready for you to work with. We plane down to your measurements leaving a smooth surface across the face of the timber. We can provide PAR Beech up to 3m long and up to 74mm x 244mm (EX 80mm x 250mm) in section size.
When working out your prices it is important to enter the exact sizes you need as these are the size we will plane down to (apart from in the length where the ends are left rough sawn and the planks are supplied slightly over length to be cut down). Also remember that two pieces maybe cheaper than one piece that is the same length as the two combined.
At iWood Timber Merchants we have built our reputation on supplying quality timber, ensuring you have the greatest % of usable European Beech Planed Timber possible.
The European Beech Tree
The Beech tree holds a very special place in the environment and is essential to its habitat not only for itself but other trees as well. Known as the “Mother of The Forest” beech trees help other hardwoods to survive because rain drip from their leaves destroys many weeds which would otherwise drain the soil of vital nutrients. The shade of its canopy also helps to prevent over-evaporation of moisture from soil.
Beech trees can stand up to 45m tall with a trunk averaging 1.2m diameter (occasionally more). It has a wide distribution across central Europe and in Britain.

Prime Quality (CND) European Lightly Steamed Beech Planed All Round from iWood Timber
Our timber is imported straight from sawmills on the continent. Our usual lead times are therefore 20 to 30 working days.
Delivery cost varies by location. Please click here to open our delivery cost page in a new window.
Our delivery lorries visit different parts of the country on different days, so once your order is ready we will work with you to arrange a delivery day for when one of our lorries is in your area. We will always arrange the delivery day in advance with you.
We deliver weekdays Monday to Friday between the hours of 8am to 5pm. Our delivery vehicles will have multiple jobs on them which can affect the delivery time to you, depending on factors such as traffic and how long it takes to offload the previous jobs. The driver will call you in advance with an estimated time of arrival to make sure you'll be there.
Aside from delivery locations that are priced on application, your delivery will be provided with means of offloading from the truck. This may be by HIAB (lorry with a crane arm), or by supplied manpower. The method will be determined by the haulage company we use based on your location and available options at the time. Please note, both offload options will drop your order to the side of the lorry, they won't be able to carry it around the back of a property, for example.
For areas that are priced on application, by default, we will quote for delivery on a flat-bed lorry that you'll need to arrange to offload yourself. We can quote for offloading on request, but to these areas it's usually prohibitively expensive, and cheaper for you to hire a forklift, or arrange to have enough people on-site to offload.
The ordering process
After placing your order securely online you receive an email confirming the items you have ordered. When your order has arrived at iWood HQ and is ready for dispatch, we will give you a call to arrange delivery.
