What oak beam grades do you supply?

We supply QP1 (D24) and QPA (D30) structural grades, both graded to BS EN 14081. QP1 is suitable for most residential projects, while QPA is required for high-load or long-span applications.

What's your minimum order value?

Collection orders: £350 ex VAT. Delivery orders: £750 ex VAT. Contact us for a detailed quotation based on your specific requirements.

What sizes are available?

What's the difference between fresh sawn and air-dried oak?

Fresh sawn oak contains 40-60% moisture and will season naturally over time with some movement. Air-dried oak (1-3 years seasoned) has lower moisture content 25–45% and experiences less movement.

QP1 Fresh Sawn Construct. (D24 Equiv.)

QP1 is a European Visual grade, equivalent to a D24 Strength Grade for construction.

QP1 is the second level of beam grading we offer. QP1 beams are still commonly used for structural work. QP1 beams do NOT contain any unsound knots or unsound sapwood, rot, frost crack, ring or star shake. A limited number of pieces may have brown streak or pith. Fresh sawn oak weighs approx. 1,200kg / m³.

Please note, as per industry standard, our oak is provided over-length to be cut down on site.

QP1 beams are available up to 400mm thickness and width up to 5m in length. Longer beams are available up to 300mm thickness and width.

QPA Fresh Sawn Construct. (D30 Equiv.)

QPA is a European Visual grade, equivalent to a D30 Strength Grade. This replaces D40. D30 is now the highest strength grade available for constructional oak.

QPA is the cleanest and highest quality beam grade we offer with the strictest quality rules. Beams graded to QPA will NOT have any unsound knots, end, star or ring shake, frost crack, bark pocket, unsound sapwood or rot.

Because of this, QPA grade beams have the highest strength for use in structural applications. Fresh sawn oak weighs approx. 1,200kg / m³.

Air Dried Constructional (EX QP1)

Air dried oak has dried naturally for between 1 and 3 years, giving the timber a darker, weathered look, featuring the highly-sought-after traditional surface checking and cracking.

Air dried is available in standard sections of 100x100mm, 120x120mm, 150x150mm, 180x180mm, 200x200mm, 250x250mm which feature the lowest price per cubic metre, and we can then cut or plane air dried beams to any dimension for you out of these sections. Please note, sawing or planing will reveal fresh-sawn faces, rather than the air-dried finish.

Air dried constructional grade oak weighs approx. 1,100kg / m³.
